These scenes are shown in full frame and only one or two might have had any place in the finished film. Extended Cut. The good news is that none of the added footage damages the pacing of the film, and at nearly two and a half hours the film still moves very well. The bad news is that the semi- new material doesn't really provide much that wasn't already covered in the theatrical release. Except the extra shot of the lion poop on the sidewalk. Donnie Brasco: Special Edition (US - DVD R1) A few years ago, I would say I went through a mafia-themed movie kick, where anything and everything I watched had to be based on. Though the video quality dips in one or two specific scenes, for the most part this is one film that got the remastering process right. Everything onscreen maintains sharp, crisp lines, virtually free of jagged edges. There's virtually no visual noise onscreen, even in the scene where Brasco trashes his apartment in almost total darkness. The transfer this time around is leaps and bounds better than anything offered previously, which should be more than enough reason for fans of the film to checkout the Extended Cut. Score: 9 out of 1. Languages and Audio The Donnie Brasco Extended Cut DVD is presented only in Dolby 5. English and French subtitles. This would seem to be the same mix used in the 2. Special Edition and for the most part it's split up fairly well. There aren't any real problem areas, aside from the occasionally difficult to understand bit of dialogue here or there, but neither does it stick out as a particularly interesting audio presentation. It also comes in with an additional cardboard sleeve on the outside featuring the same image, though for what purpose, other than justifying a premium price, no one can say. The Extended Cut DVD does not include any kind of director's commentary, or an option to watch the theatrical version. Instead, it offers the same two documentary featurettes made for the 2. The better of the two, titled . There's also a short photo montage set to pieces of the film's haunting string score and a series of sound bytes from the movie. It's worth watching once, but serves no real purpose.
